A selection of recent experiences

"I brought in my late father's Seiko that hadn't run in about fifteen years. Remy was honest about what was involved, gave me a clear quote, and the result was remarkable — it's running more accurately than I'd imagined possible for a watch of that age. They clearly care about what they're doing."

"Went in not knowing whether it was worth servicing my ETA movement or just replacing the watch. springhau assessed it and gave me an honest picture — it was absolutely worth the full service. They documented everything and handed it back in better shape than I'd hoped. Would recommend without hesitation."

"The communication throughout was excellent — I always knew what was happening and what to expect. The service took a bit longer than the initial estimate because they found a worn component mid-service, but they called me before proceeding. That kind of honesty is what keeps me coming back."

"I've tried a few places in KL for watch work over the years. springhau is the only one where I feel genuinely listened to. I asked them not to touch the patina on the dial — they understood immediately and respected that. The movement came back running beautifully."

"Brought in a vintage Citizen that belonged to my grandfather. springhau handled the restoration process with real care — they walked me through each decision, sourced a correct crown from their parts network, and provided a proper written account of the work done. The documentation alone was worth the trip."

"Straightforward, unhurried, professional. I dropped off a Tissot that was losing about four minutes a day. They diagnosed a worn balance jewel, replaced it, regulated the movement, and the watch now runs within about eight seconds per day. Exactly what I was hoping for."

In more depth

Three watch stories

Each watch that comes into the workshop has its own particular situation. These accounts give a sense of the range of work we do and how we approach it.

A 1970s Seiko from a family estate

Archival Restoration · 6 weeks

The situation

A 1974 Seiko 5 passed down from a grandfather. Non-running for approximately twelve years, with a yellowed dial, missing crown, and corroded bracelet. The owner wanted it functional and wearable without destroying its original character.

What we did

Full movement overhaul. Dial cleaned and stabilised — we preserved the patina as requested. An era-correct crown was sourced from our parts network. The bracelet was ultrasonically cleaned and refurbished. Every step was photographed and noted.

The result

Watch returned running within ±15 seconds per day — well within the original specification for the caliber. The owner received a written service record. Six months later, still running without issue.

"I half expected them to talk me out of it — it's not a valuable watch in monetary terms. They treated it like it mattered, which it does." — Nabilah K.

Swiss automatic showing erratic timekeeping

Deep Movement Care · 11 working days

The situation

A Swiss ETA-based automatic, approximately nine years old, worn daily. Losing three to five minutes per day with inconsistent behaviour between positions. Last serviced by manufacturer seven years prior.

What we did

Timegrapher revealed low amplitude and uneven beat. Movement disassembled — dried lubricants and a worn mainspring confirmed. Full cleaning, new mainspring, fresh lubrication throughout. Balance regulated across six positions. Gaskets replaced, case re-sealed.

The result

Post-service rate of +4 seconds per day average across positions. Amplitude restored to spec. Water resistance confirmed to 5 ATM. Owner collected with a timing sheet showing before/after results.

Quartz watch purchased overseas, battery query

Quick Assessment & Care · 2 working days

The situation

A Japanese quartz purchased in Tokyo, purchased two years prior, stopping intermittently. Owner was unsure whether it needed a battery or had a deeper fault, and wanted to know whether the purchase had been a good one.

What we did

Assessment revealed a weak battery and slightly corroded contacts — no fault with the movement itself. Battery replaced, contacts cleaned, gaskets evaluated and case re-sealed. Accuracy test showed the movement running within manufacturer spec.

The result

Returned fully functional at the assessment rate. Owner informed that the movement was in good condition and would not need further attention for several years. No unnecessary work suggested or performed.

"They could have sold me more work. They didn't. That's the kind of workshop I want to keep using." — Lim C.
