About the workshop
A quiet dedication to the craft
springhau was founded on a straightforward conviction: that every watch deserves the kind of attention that matches its precision. We're a small Bangsar workshop, and we prefer it that way.

How springhau came to be
springhau was established in 2006 by watchmaker Remy Ahn, who trained formally in Switzerland before returning to Malaysia with both a technical qualification and a deep appreciation for what a properly functioning watch represents to its owner. The name was chosen deliberately — a reference to the mainspring, the coiled source of energy at the heart of a mechanical movement, and to the idea that a workshop should itself be a place of stored, patient energy.
For the first several years, Remy worked from a small space in Chow Kit before relocating to the current premises on Jalan Telawi 3 in Bangsar. The area suited the workshop: it draws a mix of long-term residents, design-conscious professionals, and collectors who pass through the neighbourhood and find their way to the door. Some clients have been bringing their watches to springhau for over a decade.
The workshop has deliberately remained small. Remy handles the core technical work himself, supported by a small team for administration and client liaison. This arrangement allows a level of personal attention that would be difficult to maintain at scale — and personal attention is, in the end, what the work requires.
The services offered reflect a considered range: from a quick assessment for a watch that simply needs checking, to a full deep service for a regularly worn piece, to the patient consultative work of an archival restoration. Each of these requires a different pace, and springhau tries to honour that in how it schedules and communicates.
The people
Who you'll be working with
springhau is a small team. That's intentional. When you leave your watch with us, you know whose hands it's in.
Remy Ahn
Founder & Master Watchmaker
Trained at the Ecole d'horlogerie in Le Locle, Switzerland. Remy returned to Malaysia in 2005 and has spent the years since building a reputation for careful, honest work on both mechanical and quartz movements.
Siti Liyana
Workshop Administrator
Siti manages the day-to-day coordination of incoming watches, client communications, and service scheduling. She has been part of springhau since 2014 and knows the workshop's processes thoroughly.
Darren Teo
Junior Technician & Parts Sourcing
Darren handles preparatory work, case cleaning, and parts procurement — particularly for vintage and discontinued references. He is currently completing a watchmaking correspondence course in parallel with his workshop duties.
How we work
Standards we hold ourselves to
These aren't policies — they're habits built from years of work and from listening to what clients actually value when they entrust a watch to another person's care.
Swiss-Trained Expertise
Our watchmaker holds a formal qualification from a Swiss horological institution and has maintained practice under industry standards for over 18 years.
Correct-Grade Lubricants
We use only manufacturer-specified lubricants appropriate to each movement type and component. Lubrication is applied by hand under magnification.
Water Resistance Testing
Every case that passes through a full service is pressure-tested to confirm water resistance before it leaves the workshop. Gaskets are replaced as a standard step.
Timegrapher Regulation
Every mechanical movement we service is tested on a timegrapher in multiple positions to confirm amplitude and beat error are within acceptable tolerances.
Secure Watch Handling
Every watch received is logged, photographed, and stored securely. Access to watches in the workshop is limited to the technical team only.
Clear Communication
We explain what we find, what we recommend, and why — without technical jargon. You'll always understand what's happening with your watch before any work proceeds.
Watch repair and restoration in Kuala Lumpur
Bangsar's Jalan Telawi corridor has long been a destination for those who appreciate quality and character. springhau fits naturally into that neighbourhood — a workshop oriented toward people who care about what they own and want to extend the working life of a well-made object.
The watches that come through our door range from everyday tool watches worn through years of commuting, to family heirlooms passed down across generations, to pieces acquired during travels that now sit dormant in a drawer. Each arrives with a different history and different expectations. Our approach is to understand both before recommending anything.
Mechanical watches — whether manual-wind or automatic — benefit from regular servicing every four to six years, though conditions vary. Quartz movements require less frequent attention but deteriorate over time if batteries are left too long or gaskets are not renewed. Vintage pieces often need patience and a certain resourcefulness when parts are no longer available through standard channels.
Clients come to springhau from across Kuala Lumpur: from Bangsar and Damansara, from the city centre, from Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam. Some visit on a recommendation from a friend. Others find us while looking for someone who takes the work as seriously as they take the watch. We try to earn that trust each time.
